Every family's needs are unique and as doulas we learn to adapt to those needs. Equally though, each of us works slightly differently so the decision of who to choose is a very personal one. As we are there to provide emotional support we believe the most important thing to consider when hiring your doula is to make sure that you 'click' and feel you would be able to build a relationship that makes you feel happy and confident. To help with this decision most doulas offer a free initial consultation so it might be a good idea for you to meet with at least 2-3 doulas to see who you share the best chemistry with before deciding who to book.

Doulas are becomming more popular by the day and a lot of us are finding ourselves booked quite far ahead so to avoid disappointment we'd recommend you arrange your initial consultations as early as possible. If you are reading this quite late in your pregnancy it's still worth getting in touch, from time to time we find ourselves unexpectedly available (eg if our lady has an early delivery), or we may consider taking you on as a shared care (between two of us). If neither of those options are possible we'd be happy to provide you with more contacts and/or try to find a last minute available doula via the nurturing birth and doula uk forums.
