Benefits of Hiring a Doula

Probably one of the biggest attractions is knowing you'll have continuity of care throughout your journey. Continuity of support can make a huge difference and the latest update of the Cochrane Review shows that "continuous support was most effective when provided by a woman who was neither part of the hospital staff nor the woman's social network" ie was provided by a doula.

Another benefit is that you will receive personalised care based on your family's specific requirements and have the option to choose the right doula for you.

We also support the family as a whole so Fathers (and occasionally grandparents etc) have a real opportunity be supported through their journey too, something that unfortunately is often overlooked in the NHS system.

In fact learning to navigate the NHS system and understand how it works is another Top reason why women seek out doulas in the first place.

A UK survey done in 2009 showed that 67% of  women supported by a doula were still breastfeeding at 6 months, this compares to a national average of just 7% at 3 months - the number still feeding at 6 months is negligible despite the recommendation from the department of health for women to exclusively breastfeed for at least this length of time.
